High-PEP – High Performance OneM2M Edge Processing
With the increasing number of devices and network traffic, it is required to bring part of the intelligence to the edge to reduce impact on the backhaul. There is a need for a low latency aggregation point to manage the various protocols, distribution of messages and analytics processing. The IoT network is extremely dynamic where the number of devices changes very quickly and with large magnitude. The scalability is thus essential for an acceptable level of service. For security reason, the messages from IoT devices are encrypted. To enable the edge data processing, data decryption and encryption are mandatory.
The High Performance oneM2M Edge Processing (High-PEP) experiment aims at combining state-of-the-arts standards related to NFV, Multi-Access Edge Computing and oneM2M showcasing the standards interworking within an IoT slice. This experiment deploys a oneM2M gateway as a VNF on the SoftFIRE infrastructure in order to realize the oneM2M edge capabilities over 5G. Thanks to Easy Global Market expertise within IoT integration and on methods for validation and testing, the proposed oneM2M edge implementation will be evaluated for its latency performance and for scalability with thousands of emulated devices. Impact of end-to-end security will be evaluated by setting up the proper ciphering/deciphering mechanisms and measuring impact on performance and scalability. The SoftFIRE monitoring resource together with use of TOSCA for deployment modelling will allow resources monitoring and consumption analysis. The result and feedback from the experience will be contributed to the SDOs such as ETSI ISG NFV and oneM2M.
The High-PEP experiment addresses firstly the production and validation of new services and applications benefiting from network programmability as well as NFV. In addition, High-PEP contribute to the development and validation of a new extension to the current federated testbed.
