A European project to facilitate data sharing

The SEDIMARK project (Secure Decentralised Intelligent Data Marketplace) aims to create a European marketplace enabling secure, interoperable data sharing in line with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
Its goal is to support the development of European data spaces, where public and private data can circulate and be used reliably, benefiting cities, public authorities, researchers, and businesses.

Helsinki mobility data

The city of Helsinki provides a wide range of mobility-related open data. This data includes information on road traffic, the use of public spaces, and environmental conditions.
It represents a strategic digital asset for improving citizens’ quality of life, supporting research, and developing new urban services.

The role of NGSI-LD

For these datasets to be easily integrated into a marketplace like SEDIMARK, they need to be interoperable.
This is where NGSI-LD comes in, the European reference standard for semantic data representation. NGSI-LD structures information and makes it usable across different systems, ensuring its large-scale reusability.

The contribution of Stellio and EGM

In collaboration with Forum Virium Helsinki, we worked to expose these datasets in NGSI-LD using Stellio, our open-source context broker.
This work has made Helsinki’s mobility data directly available within SEDIMARK, demonstrating the project’s ability to connect real urban data sources and make them accessible to a wider community.

A step towards European data spaces

This deployment illustrates our contribution, alongside our partners, to the establishment of a genuine European data space offer.
Making data accessible, interoperable, and usable is essential to:

  • improve urban management,

  • strengthen public service transparency,

  • and stimulate innovation in smart cities.

Conclusion

With this first integration of Helsinki’s mobility data, SEDIMARK demonstrates its relevance as a European platform for data sharing.
Through Stellio and our NGSI-LD expertise, we are committed to continuing this work to help cities and organizations unlock the value of their data for the benefit of society.
