Horizon Europe ScaleAgData project: towards better monitoring of agro-environmental conditions

We are a partner in the ScaleAgData project, a collaborative initiative funded by the Horizon Europe program. The aim of this project is to improve agri-environmental monitoring. ScaleAgData aims to integrate and exploit data from agricultural sensors to better understand and optimize agricultural practices on a large scale.

Our role in the ScaleEAgData project

The project is structured around 7 areas of innovation, some of which benefit directly from EGM’s expertise. Here is an overview of our major contributions:

1. Innovative Sensors : The eNose
We are working on the development of the eNose, an electronic sensor designed to detect odors and apply it to soil respiration. This sensor detects gases emitted by microfauna and molds, key indicators of soil health. Using an artificial neural network, the data collected is interpreted to provide an accurate analysis of soil quality, enabling better management of agricultural land.

2. Edge Processing: The YaraSense Box
We are also contributing to the development of the YaraSense box, a solution for deploying sensors in the field, equipped with Edge Computing systems. This box enables calculations to be made directly in the field, reducing the need to transfer data to the cloud. For example, the NDVI index, used to monitor crop health, is calculated locally using an integrated mini-spectrometer, offering a real-time view of agro-environmental conditions.
What’s more, remote updating ensures greater flexibility and optimized sensor management.

3. Data Sharing Architecture and Governance
We are actively involved in the integration of the NGSI-LD standard into agricultural data exchanges, guaranteeing seamless interoperability between different systems. We are also contributing to the implementation of the DEMETER Agricultural Information Model (AIM) in NGSI-LD, reinforcing the consistency and quality of data shared across the value chain.
